How Often Should I Update My Brand Photography to Keep My Marketing Materials Fresh?
One of the most common questions I get from business owners is:
“How often should I update my brand photography?”
And the honest answer is….It depends on how quickly your business is evolving.
But for most established small businesses that are actively growing their personal brand, the real answer is:
More often than you think but more intentionally than you might expect.
Your brand isn’t static, so your visuals shouldn’t be either
As your business grows, things naturally change:
Your offers evolve
Your messaging gets clearer
Your confidence shifts
Your audience becomes more defined
Your presence becomes more refined
And yet, many businesses are still working with imagery from a “previous version” of themselves.
That’s where things start to feel slightly disconnected.
Not wrong but not fully aligned either.
Because your audience is experiencing a current version of your business through visuals that may no longer reflect it.
So how often should you update your brand photography?
For most personal brands I work with, I recommend a layered approach rather than a one-off shoot:
1. Full brand shoots: 1–2 times per year
This is your foundation.
These shoots are designed to capture:
your core identity
your updated messaging and offers
seasonal or strategic shifts in your business
Think of this as resetting and realigning your visual direction.
2. In-action / content updates: every few months
This is where your brand stays alive.
Rather than waiting a year for new content, we regularly capture:
you working in real time
client interactions
behind-the-scenes moments
evolving offers or launches
This keeps your brand feeling current, not staged or outdated.
Why this matters more than most people realise
Fresh brand photography isn’t about having “nice new photos.”
It’s about ensuring your marketing always reflects:
where your business is right now
how you actually work with clients
the energy and confidence you’re currently showing up with
Because when your visuals don’t evolve with your business, your marketing starts doing more heavy lifting than it needs to.
You end up trying to “make old content work,” instead of having content that already fits.
A real example of how this works in practice
One of my clients works with me on a structured approach:
Full brand shoots a couple of times a year
In-action sessions every few months
What this means in reality is simple:
Her content never feels outdated.
She always has:
seasonal imagery ready to go
fresh visuals for launches
real-time content that reflects her current offers
a consistent visual identity across everything she posts
content with her employees
And most importantly, she never scrambles for content.
This is where the VIP membership changes everything
The biggest challenge for most business owners isn’t understanding that they need brand photography.
It’s remembering to plan it consistently while running a business.
That’s where my VIP membership comes in.
Instead of thinking:
“I need to book a shoot soon…”
“I’m running out of content again…”
“I’ll sort visuals when I have time…”
Everything is already planned in advance.
Your shoots are scheduled throughout the year.
Your content is mapped around your growth.
Your visuals evolve with your business, not after it.
It becomes part of your business rhythm, not another task on your to-do list.
The takeaway
You don’t need brand photography once.
You need brand photography that grows with you.
Because as your business evolves, your visuals should do more than just “look good.”
They should reflect where you are now and where you’re going next.
And when that’s already taken care of?
You don’t have to think about it.
It’s just done.
